In 2016, director and friend, Jon Maxwell asked me to edit the sequel to his documentary "aka Dan." "aka Seoul" followed five Korean adoptees, for some on their first trip to South Korea, as they explored their heritage and potentially reconnected with birth families. The challenge? We needed the edit to work for both a 90-minute feature and a multi-part web series, all within a crazy short six-week timeframe. With no time to waste, I dove in, meticulously organizing hours of interview footage. I storyboarded the story structure on index cards trying to visualize the pacing of the film. The hard work paid off – the film became the centerpiece at the San Diego Asian Film Festival in 2016 and went on to screen at CAAMfest in 2017!
